Putting it all together… 30th August 2008

So the time has finally arrived to put the multimedia togther.  The, rather ambitious as it turns out, plan was to get it all finished tday and uploaded to my website leaving tomorrow to polish up anything that needed it.  As with all great plans this was doomed to fail but not by much.  After labelling all the audio files, editing the images into a final order (final until a bit later at least…), preparing final versions of all the file files to be used and then laying it all out on a timeline I was already near midnight!

Many cups of coffee later and the final timeline was done, quite different than the edit from earlier in the day but it was looking far stronger than I had feared before it all came together.  I will leave some more substantial feedback of my own on the experience and a copy of the final version after the monday hand in when I have a bit more room to breathe, but will post a bit about the experience of editing it now.

The main problems arose trying to encode the work.  Despite having all the relevant software the transitions proved problematic but I am still in support of the cheesy fades rather than the harsh cuts.  Also, rather foolishly I went against common wisedom and tried to match the audio to the images that I had already laid out and this made life difficult in that I was forced to use pieces of audio in a slightly disjointed fashion, which, whilst part of the plan to disrupt the viewer, wasn’t quite how i wanted it to be.  I am sure however goven a few more months of learning the skills of editing to a timeline and something promising may be produced.
