Despite the fact that we should have finished shooting by now the weather looked right this morning with that light white cloud that keeps things looking interesting and yet holds back the shadows well. With this in mind I went on the mission I have been putting off and went exploring Golden Pebble Beach (Jinshitan) which is about an hour away on the light rail from central Dalian. Note to self -light rail at rush hour is a bad idea…
As is the law of sod as I got there the sun came out with a blindingly hot sun unveiled but I had come this far so spent some time wondering around the beach area and the outskirts of the theme park making images of the periphery. Recorded more audio as well and my god it was a pain -every time I had the recorder on next to a fence gatering audio of a rollercoaster either a horse with bells on pulling a carriage for tourists would rattle by or some Chinese tourists would stop and loudly discuss what this strange foreigner was up to right behind me… I have a whole new appreciation for those newscasters you used to see on ‘It’ll be Alright on the Night’ who used to go mad when they were constantly interrupted whilst doing broadcasts outside. Made some more images as a sequence of the sea coming i which may be useful for the natural beginisng to the multimedia but the most successful shots are probably those of the rollercaster behind a hedge. If the light has been laess harsh there were some marquee type sun shields and stacks of chairs and an old life guard watch tower/chair that were interesting but I suspect they will look bland in the final images. This could be a good place to visit during the off season to contrast with the similar work I have done in the UK around Weston-Super-Mare in the off season.
