China Daily -Dissecting China’s ‘Middle class’

China Daily report here from 27/10/2004 about the “middle class’” or “middle-income stratum”, “middle-income group” or just “middle stratum”  -due to obvious political sensitivities about referring to class in China,  cites the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) predicts this middle-stratum will account for 40% of the countries population by 2020.  The National Bureau of Statistics states that 25% of the population, or 57 million households, will be classified as middle Stratrum by 2010.  The article continues on with a lot more figures and arguements from bot sides stating whether there is or is not a middle-stratum yet in China.
